Now look, we live in a fast-paced, information-inundated time. On every corner another pundit roars supposedly universal, 1-10-step, wellness remedies. To be sure, much can be gained from learning different health strategies and these experts offer invaluable information and research. And importantly, your health needs, panaceas, and paths to wellbeing must be individualized to your distinct set of circumstances, genetics, values, strengths, and more.
While there are absolutely some recognized facts about how to achieve optimal health (such as: eat plants) and general medical knowledge about causes of dis-eases (such as: low Vitamin D), health coaching is primarily about something so much more fundamental and life-altering than mere advice and content education. It is about what I call unearthing or discovering your template for change—your personal and completely transferable skillset for your unique, intrinsic motivation.
You see, your bloomswell is driven by you. As your health coach, I am a temporary, and as-needed, catalyst for the self-discovery of your optimal self and life. You are not a number, a generalization, or a stereotype. You are not just your genes, not entirely your past. In many ways, you are beautifully and mysteriously beyond definition. A constantly changing being. As Walt Whitman said, “I am large, I contain multitudes.” As Ed Yong quips, “Perhaps it is less that I contain multitudes and more that I am multitudes.”
It is no secret that change is difficult. Some habits are like old, worn shoes—desperately in need of replacement, but comfortable, familiar, hard to let go of.
